SHPE Objectives
Hispanic Excellence in Engineering and Science SHPE Commitment Adopted July 7, 1994 STATEMENT OF VALUES We are brought together by heritage, social responsibility and desire to improve the equality for all people through the use of science and technology.We value excellence in education, professional pursuits and leadership. We obtain excellence through integrity, empowerment, achievement, diversity and continuous improvement.
VISION STATEMENT We are a national asset that will influence the multi cultural development of educational, economic and governmental process to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering and science.
MISSION STATEMENT SHPE's mission is to promote the development of Hispanics in engineering, science and other technical professions to achieve educational excellence, economic opportunity and social equity. We will fulfill this mission by increasing educational opportunities, promoting professional and personal growth, carry out our social responsibility to be involved in education, business and government issues and enhancing pride within our organization and reinforcing our reputation as a vital Hispanic organization.
STRATEGIC GOALS Educational Opportunities 1. Work to reform the educational system to meet the nation's future technical and scientific needs. 2. Increase the number of Hispanics entering engineering and science undergraduate and post graduate programs. 3. Increase the retention and graduation of Hispanic students pursuing engineering, science and other technical professions.
Professional Growth And Development 4. Increase the career opportunities for Hispanics employed in engineering science and other technical professions. 5. Promote upward mobility of Hispanics in management and professional capacities. 6. Increase the number of Hispanic technical business enterprises.
Social Responsibility 7. Encourage personal involvement in the Hispanic community. 8. Provide technical advice and services to, and on behalf of the Hispanic community. 9. Promote public, government and private industry awareness of engineering and scientific issues which affect Hispanics regionally, nationally and globally.
Organizational Development 11. Maintain SHPE as the leading Hispanic technical organization in the United States. 12. Enhance pride and excellence within the organization through the promotion of high ethical standards, empowerment of our members, professional achievement, cultural diversity and continuous self-improvement. 13. Maintain sound management and controls to protect the longevity of SHPE and promote the effective use of its resources.
